The Course:

This area may well be one of the most photographed areas in Canada. Once the image on the Canadian $20 dollar bill if you look up high into the mountains there are many excellent mountaineering routes and an ACC Hut for a base camp.

The 10 peaks are an alpine paradise where many options exist for moderate climbing routes, North facing ice couloirs or easy 5th class rock ridges. Spend the night at the nations highest structure, the Neil Colgan hut, which sits at 2955m high above moraine lake. The west ridge of Mt Fay will be attempted on this trip, a great intermediate alpine route with snow and ice to 45 degrees and easy 5th class rock climbing.

For the more adventurous consider the 10 peaks traverse, 3-4 days traversing the crest of the ten peaks; contact AAA office for traverse details.

Custom dates are available, please inquire at [email protected].

A detailed course package will be emailed 3 days prior to course commencement.

If you have an exceptional experience and would like to leave a tip for your guide, 10-15% is a customary amount. You can pay with cash or contact the AAA office directly to arrange.

We suggest layers of light, easily carried clothing that allow for fast and easy adjustment to best suit fast changing temperature conditions in the mountains. Cotton clothing of any kind is not recommended as it causes rapid heat loss when wet. We will have time to go through your clothing and gear prior to the climb. You will need to bring:
  • WOOL / BLEND SOCKS clean socks for each day.
  • Warm LONG PANTS to climb in. These should be wool / nylon blend, fleece pants or Sheoller material

  • Wool or fleece LONG SLEEVE SHIRT.

Most hiking boots are not suitable not being firm enough, waterproof and not made to take crampons. Mountaineering boots are made from leather or plastic. Leather boots have either a semi-rigid or a rigid sole. Plastic boots have rigid soles. The most important feature of a mountaineering boot is comfort followed by performance. If buying try a few different pairs and if they are not comfortable don't buy them. There are many good brands. They include Asolo, Kayland, Koflach, la Sportiva and Scarpa.
