Lake O’Hara is one of the most breathtaking destinations in the Canadian Rockies, offering pristine alpine lakes, panoramic vistas, and unforgettable scenery. Whether you’re an experienced hiker or just beginning your outdoor journey, this guided hike provides a safe, personalized, and immersive way to experience one of Canada’s most iconic alpine areas.

The Course

This guided hiking program allows you to explore the Lake O’Hara region with an ACMG-certified guide. Your guide will tailor the day to your group, choosing a route that balances challenge and enjoyment while ensuring safety in this alpine environment. Group size is capped at a maximum of five participants for a more personal experience.

Itinerary & Route Options

On the day of your hike, your ACMG-certified guide will select the route based on trail conditions, weather, and the group’s skill and fitness level to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. Options include:

• Lake Oesa Hike: 6.6 km round trip, 240 m elevation gain, easy to moderate. A gentle introduction with serene alpine scenery and crystal-clear waters.
• Opabin Plateau Circuit: 5.9 km loop, 250 m elevation gain, moderate. Scenic viewpoints over Lake O’Hara and surrounding peaks, ideal for photography and nature observation.
• The Alpine Circuit: 11 km loop, 887 m elevation gain, challenging. For experienced hikers seeking high alpine views and a more demanding adventure. Trail and weather conditions permitting.

A detailed course package will be emailed 3 days prior to course commencement.

Tipping Your Guide

If you have an exceptional experience, tips for guides are always appreciated. A 10–15% gratuity is customary and can be given in cash or arranged through the AAA office.
