DESCRIPTION:

Join our Backcountry Ski & Splitboard Program, a one-day guided experience for strong intermediate skiers and snowboarders (blue runs) who want to learn the fundamentals of backcountry travel. Under the guidance of certified ACMG guides, you’ll explore the stunning terrain around Lake Louise, Kananaskis Country, and Highway 93 North & South. This program will help you build core touring techniques such as efficient skinning, smooth transitions, group travel strategies, and powder riding in variable conditions, giving you the confidence to travel safely in the backcountry.

Backcountry Ski & Splitboard Program

One-Day Ski Touring & Splitboarding Experience

Program Overview

This program introduces strong intermediate skiers and snowboarders to the fundamentals of backcountry ski touring and splitboarding. Over the course of the day, you’ll learn essential skills including efficient skinning, smooth transitions, group travel strategies, and powder riding in variable conditions. Participants will gain practical experience traveling safely through backcountry terrain with expert guidance from ACMG-certified instructors.

Program Itinerary

  • 7:45 AM – Meet your guide at the designated trailhead (location provided in the pre-program email)
  • 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM – Ski/ride & Learn at an area in Lake Louise, Kananaskis, or on Highway 93

Course Package

A detailed program package will be emailed 3 days prior to the activity.

Tipping Your Guide

If you had an exceptional experience, tips for guides are always appreciated. A 10–15% gratuity is customary and can be given in cash or arranged through the AAA office.
