DESCRIPTION:

The Companion Rescue Refresher is a one day course designed for winter back-country travelers to refresh their companion rescue skills without committing to another AST course. The skills reviewed will be at a high level and at minimum, an AST 1 course should have been completed in the past 3 years. The location will be determined in the final logistics email depending on highway and snow-pack conditions, but you can expect one of the following areas; Burstall pass parking area, Vermilion pass fire break, Lake Louise area or Bow Summit.

  • Skis, It is recommend to use a shorter (160 - 185cm) mid-fat to fat ski designed for powder and spring snow conditions
  • Climbing skins 'Stick-on type'
  • Ski Poles/ split boarders too

  • Avalanche beacon with fresh batteries
  • Snow shovel
  • Collapsible probe
  • Daypack, 35-45 L
  • Sunglasses and ski goggles
