You’ll learn the basics and enjoy hands-on experience scaling ice on a frozen waterfall in the breathtaking Banff area. Whether you're spending the day with friends or bringing your family (kids ages 14+), this unforgettable adventure is perfect for anyone looking to try ice climbing in Banff. Book now to make the most of your Banff visit!

 

A detailed course package will be emailed 3 days prior to course commencement.

 

The Day:

 

Our Intro Ice Climbing Adventure takes place in the stunning regions of Banff, Canmore, Lake Louise, or Field, BC. Depending on weather and conditions, the exact location may vary, but you’ll receive full details in the final logistics email. The adventure begins between 8-9 AM and concludes around 3-4 PM. This outdoor experience is ideal for those seeking fun and safe activities in Banff and its surroundings. Join us for a day of exploration in the heart of the Canadian Rockies!

 

Banff Locations

 

  • Johnston Canyon
    World-famous, iconic Banff ice climbing destination
    Stunning views of frozen waterfalls and scenic surroundings
  • Step Right Up
    Scenic, secluded ice climbing along Banff’s 1A Wildlife Corridor
    A great spot for beginners to enjoy quiet, beautiful terrain
  • Lake Louise Falls & Gullies
    Iconic frozen waterfalls
    Panoramic views of Lake Louise and the historic Lake Louise Chateau

 

Canmore Locations

 

  • Grotto Canyon
    A beautiful, narrow canyon filled with impressive ice structures
    A picturesque location perfect for beginners
  • Junkyards
    Located at the foot of Ha-Ling and Grassi Lakes
    Enjoy panoramic views of the Canmore valley and surrounding mountains

 

Our Ice Climbing locations are chosen based on conditions, offering a unique experience at each spot in both Banff and Canmore.

 

Multi-pitch climbing is a great next step if you enjoy ice climbing.

 

A detailed course package will be emailed 3 days prior to course commencement.

 

If you have an exceptional experience and would like to leave a tip for your guide, 10-15% is a customary amount. You can pay with cash or contact the AAA office directly to arrange.

 

  • Please note transportation isn't included.

  • All of our guides have undergone training and evaluation by the ACMG, meeting the established criteria of a globally acknowledged professional organization.
