Castle Mountain Highline, Goat Plateau Trek

Moderate

DESCRIPTION:

Searching Availability...

The Course:

There is no mistaking Castle Mountain from the trans-Canada highway, towering alpine rock walls and a long majestic ridge. Few people know that mid-way up the large wall is a hike-able plateau and a small ACC hut. The High-line/goat plateau trek will explore the goat plateau and discover a view of the Bow Valley from Banff to Lake Louise that only experienced climbers see.

The Day:

The trek will start at 8:00am at the Castle Mountain gas station parking lot on highway 1a 20km East of Lake Louise or 25 km West of Banff, the group will meet their ACMG Mountain Guide and begin an easy hike through the forest to the old fire lookout, from there you will leave the beaten path and follow a faint climbers trail to the base of the bottom wall, one pitch of easy 5th class climbing leads to an amazing 4th class but exposed trail up to the hut.

Once at the hut the group will stop for lunch then continue to explore the Goat Plateau, depending on timing, you will either descend the way you came or traverse all the way to Eisenhauer Tower and descend to the Rock bound lake trail.

This trek is suitable for strong intermediate-expert hikers or scramblers. Climbing skills are not necessary although will be an asset.

A detailed course package will be emailed 3 days prior to course commencement.
