Product Description

Moraine Lake & Mt Fay, June 30- July 1st, 2018

This area may well be one of the most photographed areas in Canada. Once the image on the Canadian $20 dollar bill if you look up high into the mountains there are many excellent mountaineering routes and an ACC Hut for a base camp.

The 10 peaks are an alpine paradise where many options exist for moderate climbing routes, N facing ice couloirs or easy 5th class rock ridges. Spend Canada day  at the nations highest structure, the Neil Colgan hut sits at 2955m high above moraine lake. The west ridge of mt Fay will be attempted on this trip, a great intermediate alpine route with snow and ice to 45 degrees and easy 5th class rock climbing.

For the more adventurous consider the 10 peaks traverse, 3-4 days traversing the crest of the ten peaks; contact Jeff for traverse details.

Cost based on 2:1 ratio, please inquire if you would like to go 1:1 for a custom quote. There are a few classic steep ice lines which can be climbed, they will not disappoint!

Custom dates are available just inquire with Jeff

Gear List

o PILLOW, light and small
o SLEEPING BAG (3 season,-9 deg c min)
o We will be carrying this gear up and down so keep it light
In the mountains it is important to layer your clothing. I suggest layers of light, easily carried clothing that allow for fast and easy adjustment to best suit fast changing temperature conditions in the mountains. Cotton clothing of any kind is not recommended as it causes rapid heat loss when wet. We will have time to go through your clothing and gear prior to the climb.
You will need to bring:
o WOOL/BLEND SOCKS clean socks for each day.
o Warm LONG PANTS to climb in. These should be wool/nylon blend, fleece pants or Sheoller material
o Light SHIRT or T-SHIRT.
o Wool or fleece LONG SLEEVE SHIRT.
o FLEECE SWEATER (medium weight).
o Heavyweight fleece or insulated/down JACKET.
o Water proof OUTER JACKET with hood (Gore-Tex).
o Waterproof OUTER PANTS, preferably with side zips on legs.
o Waterproof knee-length GAITERS that will fit over large boots.
o Waterproof mountaineering GLOVES or wool / fleece mitts /gloves plus waterproof over mitts, two pairs.
o SUNHAT with wide brim.
You will need to bring:
o MOUNATINEERING BOOTS: You will need proper mountaineering boots designed specifically for this use. Most hiking boots are not suitable not being firm enough, waterproof and not made to take crampons. Mountaineering boots are made from leather or plastic. Leather boots have either a semi-rigid or a rigid sole. Plastic boots have rigid soles. The most important feature of a mountaineering boot is comfort followed by performance. If buying try a few different pairs and if they are not comfortable don’t buy them. There are many good brands. They include Asolo, Kayland, Koflach, la Sportiva and Scarpa..
o BACKPACK: Large enough to carry spare clothing, lunch, water and climbing gear. 40-55liters
o ICE AXE: For intermediate and advanced ascents an ice axe with a curved pick is best suited, 55cm-65cm.
o 12 PIONT CRAMPONS which must fit your boots.
o SUNGLASSES with good UV protection, ‘glacier glasses’.
o Lip Cream.
o HEADLAMP with fresh batteries.
o WATERBOTTLE (1L minimum).
o BLISTER KIT (‘moleskin’, ‘Second Skin’)
o FIRST-AID Items (band-aids, ibuprofen & aspirin / Tylenol is enough as I will have a kit also).
o 3 locking caribiners, 2 non locking caribiners
o 2x5m 6mm prussic cord
